Venue Adjustments for Intermountain Health Freestyle International Presented by Stifel
After extensive evaluation and close coordination with FIS and U.S. Ski & Snowboard, the decision has been made to relocate the World Cup competition to Lake Placid and Waterville Valley due to our unseasonably warm temperatures and lower-than-normal snowpack.
This was not a decision taken lightly; our event and mountain teams, who have delivered this event for almost 30 years, carefully assessed what it would take to safely and successfully build a World Cup-caliber venue this year. Given current conditions and the significant snow, infrastructure, and staffing required, moving forward would not have been in the best interest of the athletes—particularly in an Olympic qualification year, where every competition opportunity matters.
We understand this news may be disappointing and we appreciate your understanding. The International Ski World Cup competition is deeply rooted in Deer Valley’s history, and decisions like this are never made lightly. Thank you for your continued support of the sport and its athletes.
